Over 500 men, women, and children are homeless in Evansville each year

Aurora, Inc. is a community-driven nonprofit based in Evansville, Indiana, dedicated to confronting homelessness with compassion, dignity, and practical solutions. Every day, individuals and families in our community face the harsh realities of housing instability—sleeping in unsafe conditions, navigating life without consistent support, or re-entering society without a safety net. Aurora meets people in these critical moments, offering not just services, but a path forward.

Through street outreach, essential resources, and re-entry support for individuals transitioning from incarceration or institutional care, Aurora works to break cycles of instability before they become permanent. The organization also provides specialized assistance for individuals with disabilities and others at heightened risk of homelessness—ensuring that those most often overlooked are not left behind.

Each year, Aurora serves more than 1,600 people, including families, veterans, and individuals facing some of life’s toughest challenges. But the need continues to grow. Rising housing costs, economic uncertainty, and gaps in support systems mean more people are one crisis away from losing everything.

That’s why Aurora’s work is more urgent than ever.

By building strong community partnerships and advocating for sustainable solutions, Aurora is not only addressing immediate needs—it is working to create lasting change. With the support of donors and community members, Aurora can expand its reach, strengthen its programs, and move closer to a future where everyone has a safe place to call home.

Because homelessness isn’t just a housing issue—it’s a human one. And together, we have the power to change it.

"Wonderful organization! I often choose to donate items such as pots and pans and gently used towels or bedding here. They help to get the homeless into homes and once they are there they don't have the basic necessities like these that we often take for granted every day."
