Clothing, protective items, personal care supplies:
Those living on the streets have limited access to storing extra clothing, laundry services and protection from the elements; thus they are always in need of dry, clean socks and underwear, clothing for the elements-cold and rain. Bolded items are especially needed.
Men's Coat or warm jacket (L, XL, 2X) Men's Underwear (M, L, XL packages) Personal Care Items Gloves (warm, heavy) Hat Men's Hooded Sweatshirt (L, XL, 2X) Women's socks Men's Crew Socks Blanket (dark, non-attention-getting colors) Sleeping Bag
Food: Every week(52 weeks), our Homeless Outreach Team delivers 25-40 bags of food supplies to those known to live on the streets. (Approx. $50.00 per week for basic items)
For the Homeless Outreach Team to have cash available fto assist clients with urgent requests for assistance that cannot be covered through other community services.
Gift Cards from area department stores such as Wal-Mart, Target, Big Lots, Dollar General, Family Dollar, etc. to be able to purchase items to start in a new apartment or house for Housing Starter Kits, e.g. lamps, cleaning supplies, iron, etc. (See brochure for details on creating Housing Starter Kits.)
Storage/Moving:
When it returns later, it is
depleted of most items. The Aurora
Homeless Outreach Team will have distributed those items to our homeless
clients who are living in places not meant for human habitation.
However, who replenishes the outreach supplies at Aurora? Throughout the year, many wonderful volunteers and generous donors--people just like YOU--assist us with supplies that stock the van weekly. Aurora’s Outreach Team serves those who are homeless in Evansville and Vanderburgh County. For our services, the term “homeless” means “staying at local shelters or transitional housing programs,” or “living on the streets.” Our case managers work tirelessly with our homeless community members to help them to overcome various barriers and to become permanently housed.
